Challenge:

A client’s dosimeters were having a high variability of results in the high exposure range. A dosimeter is a small piece
(< ½” x ½”) of a specially treated material that is used to read exposure level to radiation. It is used in the health care and food industries.

 

Work Performed:

• Performed a root cause analysis to focus work on finding an effective solution

• Identified two causal relationships, both which could be removed through material selection

• Specified film material characteristics that would eliminate the degradation of the dosimeters at high exposure levels

• Identified and sourced films for the dosimeter pouches

• Set up and completed testing to verify the solution

Results:

Dosimeter read performance at higher exposure levels was greatly improved due to the revised outer pouch packaging.
